Thunder Bay, ON – This Father’s Day, the Ontario Native Women’s Association (ONWA) honours the important role that Indigenous fathers, brothers, grandfathers, uncles, and caregivers play in the health and well-being of our families and communities. Rooted in love, responsibility, and respect, Indigenous fatherhood is a sacred commitment that holds the power to uplift, teach, and strengthen the next generations.

Today, we recognize and celebrate the Indigenous fathers who stand beside Indigenous women, who walk with humility and strength, and who are raising boys to be kind, accountable, and grounded in culture. Our sons learn from the men who show up in their lives. Let them witness what it means to be a safe and supportive presence that honours the sacredness of women, girls, and Two-Spirit people.

ONWA continues to advocate for the safety and empowerment of Indigenous women and girls. Ending gender-based violence is not a “women’s issue” — it requires the active leadership of men and boys. This Father’s Day, ONWA invites all Indigenous men to reflect on the legacy they are creating. Choose to be the helper, the teacher, and the healer. Stand with Indigenous women. Raise strong, respectful boys who take up their responsibilities. Together, we are reclaiming our communities and families one sacred relationship at a time.
